Having just spent a week crammed into a campervan with my husband, two kids, our and dog, the chaos of parenthood is right at the forefront of my mind, so it felt like the right time to delve into my experiences of being a parent, as well as photographer.
It’s a subject I’ve been meaning to cover for a while; one that people ask me about again and again, and something that I feel like this hour-long recording just scratches the surface of. Everyone’s journey is totally different and it’s important that’s represented so, in the interests of showing you guys more than one perspective, I plan to turn ‘On Photography and Parenthood’ into a series, interviewing other photographers who are parents and want-to-be parents so you can get a rounded insight - not every month by any means as I know not everyone cares/is interested - but in the months ahead there’ll be additions to the conversation.
Below is my experience; how I have dealt with pregnancy both physically and financially, how being pregnant and having young kids has affected my work over the past five years, the standard treatment in the industry and my advice for anyone considering whether to make that jump. But this is a conversation that is ongoing, so please do comment below or head over to the Paid Subscribers chat channel with any questions or areas that I haven’t covered here in case I can offer any insight, either from myself or from people I know who are doing the same juggle (of whom there are many!). It’ll be open and hopefully lively with chat all week, so see you there.
